SEOUL, KOREA - An 85-inch Ultra HD (UHD) TV, developed by Samsung Electronics, is set to win a presidential award. The company announced on May 20 that its 85-inch UHD TV would receive the presidential award at the IT exhibition World IT Show 2013 that is held at COEX in Seoul's Gangnam for four-day runs starting from May 21.

The Korea Multimedia Technology Award, established in 1994, is an IT award created to promote the development of core IT technologies. Based on selection by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the awards consist of presidential award, prime minister's awards, and ministerial awards.
UHD TV provides clearer image and higher resolution that is more than four times higher than those offered by Full HD TVs. A group of domestic companies, including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, are vying with Japanese companies such as Sony and Sharp in the global UHD TV market.
Samsung Electronics' 85-inch UHD TV features the adoption of a diamond black panel and a diming ultimate technology, thereby providing a diverse range of images through an ultra-large screen in a vivid and clear manner. The high-performance speaker embedded in a frame provides a high-quality sound of 120 watts.
