SEOUL, KOREA - The World IT Show (WIS) and the Seoul International 3D Fair, the largest IT and 3D festivals in Korea, finished its four-day run on May 24. These events, held at COEX in Seoul's Gangnam, attracted 169,000 visitors, up 1,000 from a year ago.
On the last day of the events, it was crowded with a huge influx of family visitors and students ahead of the weekend. This year's events achieved a remarkable business performance as they were attended by a number of large companies and small startups.
In particular, the IT export consultation meetings with promising buyers, held on May 22 by the Korea International Trade Association and the Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT), generated 290 cases of export consultations and $31-million export deals.
The meetings were attended by a group of Asia's large telecom companies, including Japan's NTT DoCoMo and Thailand's CAT Telecom, Korea's major companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom and promising tech startups.
Catching the eyes at the meeting was a tech start-up OJ World, the company that launched a new messenger service "Iconting," which had a consultation meeting with Vietnam's state-run telecom company Vietnam Data Communication Co. (VDC) and signed a $1-million export contract.
