SEOUL, KOREA – Unity Technologies, the company behind the Unity multi-platform game engine, will provide support for Samsung-led Tizen (the Linux-based open source mobile operating system), therefore assisting the Tizen Association in making efforts for Tizen’s global expansion.
Unity Technologies' general manager for Asia, John Goodale, officially announced upcoming support for the open source Tizen mobile operating system at the Tizen Developer Conference 2013, held in San Francisco on May 23. Accordingly, Unity's massive community of developers will be allowed to build and publish games to Tizen OS smartphones and tablets via the Tizen Store as early as the end of this year.
"Unity and Tizen have a lot in common in that they both aim to make the creation and the deployment of games and other apps as easy as possible for developers," Unity Technologies CEO David Helgason said in a statement.
"Games are one of the driving forces behind smartphone and tablet adoption. Unity support for Tizen OS ensures a huge number of talented developers making some of the most entertaining games have an efficient and powerful channel to publish their titles to Tizen Store," said Royichi Sugimura, Chairman of Tizen Association.

유니티 엔진, 모바일 OS `타이젠` 지원한다
스마트폰 게임 엔진으로 가장 널리 쓰고 있는 유니티엔진이 삼성 주도의 `타이젠`을 지원한다. `타이젠`의 전 세계적 확산에 힘이 실리게 됐다.
유니티테크놀로지스는 세계 모바일게임 개발사에 공급되는 자사 유니티엔진에서 오픈소스 모바일 운용체계(OS) `타이젠`을 지원할 예정이라고 26일 밝혔다.
존 구데일 유니티테크놀로지스 아시아지역 총책임자는 지난 23일(현지시각) 미국 샌프란시스코에서 열린 `타이젠 개발자 콘퍼런스2013`에서 이같은 타이젠 지원 계획을 공식 발표했다. 빠르면 올해 말부터 유니티 엔진으로 작업한 게임이나 콘텐츠를 타이젠 스토어를 거쳐 타이젠용 스마트폰과 태블릿 등에 선보일 수 있을 전망이다.
데이빗 헬가슨 CEO는 “유니티와 타이젠은 콘텐츠를 더욱 쉽게 제작하고 구현하도록 개발자를 지원한다는 동일한 목표를 갖고 있다”며 “오픈 소스로서 큰 시장 잠재력을 가진 타이젠이 유니티 커뮤니티의 개발자에게 성공할 수 있는 또 하나의 방법을 제시할 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
타이젠 연합의 스기무라 로이치 의장은 “게임은 스마트폰과 태블릿이 보급된 원동력 중의 하나”라며 “유니티가 타이젠을 지원함으로써 능력 있는 개발자들이 자신의 게임 타이틀을 타이젠 스토어에 출시할 수 있는 효과적인 채널을 가질 수 있게 됐다”고 말했다.
