SEOUL, KOREA - LG U+ emerged as the largest client for LG Electronics thanks to an increase in sales of LG smartphones.
LG Electronics announced on May 26 that it sold the largest number of smartphones to LG U+, followed by an American retailer Sears and an Iranian electronic retail store chain Gold Iran. Other major outlets include LG's home electronics retail chain Hi Plaza and a U.S. retailer Home Depot.
LG Electronics' smartphone sales to its top-ten clients declined year-on-year but its sales to LG U+ rose. In 2012 when LG Electronics unveiled its major client list for the first time, LG U+ was positioned at mere No. 3. LG U+ purchased fewer smartphones from LG Electronics due to the latter's sluggish business.
An LG official said, "As LG Electronics' market share in the global market continues to grow, the share of major telecom companies in and outside Korea, including LG U+, in LG Electronics' smartphone sales would continue to expand."
