SEOUL, KOREA - Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has won an US$800-million project to build offshore plants. The DSME-Petrofac Emirates consortium said on May 27 that it has been awarded a contract by Zakum Development Company (ZADCO) for the Upper Zakum oil field development in Abu Dhabi. ZADCO is an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company subsidiary in which ExxonMobil and Japan Oil Development Company are other shareholders.
The project calls for building a crude oil production facility on an artificial island 80 kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi. Once the construction is completed, the current oil output of 550,000 barrels a day will be increased to 750,000 barrels.
The consortium will be responsible for all stages of the expansion project from engineering to procurement, construction, installation and to commissioning (EPCIC) and complete it by 2017.
