Market preoccupied with Gigabit PON

With the company's Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) equipment developed for the first time for a Korean corporation, LS Cable (www.lscable.co.kr) is poised to preoccupy the fiber to the home (FTTH) market. LS Cable is slated to demonstrate this G-PON equipment to the ITU Telecom World 2006 to be held on this December 4 to 8 in Hong Kong, which is called as the largest exhibition of IT industry.

With a theme of FTTH Total Solution at this forthcoming exhibition, the company holds its independent booth through which LS Cable embodies FTTH environment ranging from the central office up to subscriber homes by using FTTH telecommunication equipment, outside plant-related cable, and associated materials like splitters.

Officials responsible for FTTH market at LS Cable said that the company focused in allowing visitors to see how FTTH is being actually constructed and to experience each constituents at firsthand.

FTTH is a technology which enables optic cable-based highspeed telecommunication for its subscribers.

LS Cable, among others, is scheduled to present G.984 standard G-PON equipment, developed for the first time in Korea. Through this, the company plans to boost its awareness degree as a FTTH Total Solution Provider both nominally and virtually, which puts together telecommunication equipment escaping from its established cable-oriented supply company image.

G-PON is a kind of equipment which provides the highest performance for a telecommunication equipment to follow ITU international standardization. Dubbed as the LS Intelligent Multi-service Broadband Access G-PON Solution, LS Cable's G-PON offers switching handling capacity of 384Gbps. It is a stable and high-powered telecommunication system that telecommunication business providers demand because it is being designed with a dual structure to be able to provide continuous service despite of any obstacles, LS Cable's officials explained.

LS IMBA G-PON solution offers Time Division

Multiplexing (TDM) gateway function as well as PSTN gateway function in one platform including IP switching function. Hence, business providers can embody Triple Play Service (TPS) both in name and reality since the solution can offer not only new IPbased services such as high-speed Internet service, IPTV, VoIP, but also existing services like general telephone as well as Analog Video Overlay at the same time, according to LS Cable. LS Cable has been preparing G-PON development since last year and plans to market commercialization equipment through which pilot service is possible in this forthcoming December this year.

With the company's participation in FTTH pilot project from next year based on telecommunication business provider at home and abroad and G-PON, LS Cable plans to harden its business foundation and achieve full-scale commercialization by taking part in oversea FTTH projects.

In a nutshell, LS Cable is expected to spread its wings with FTTH.

Deciding to aggressively unfold the FTTH project as the future engine of LS Cable, Vice Chairman and CEO Koo Chayol of LS Cable is dedicating many efforts on oversea and domestic market pioneering.

Not only at home, but also abroad, LS Cable's FTTH business begins to show life. By receiving an order of US$12 million from a Kuwait FTTH Project on August 2005, LS Cable has the project continuously under way to date and prepared a momentum to be able to unfold System Integration business in earnest by receiving projects, which construct a telecommunication network worth US$5 million for 19 Iraqi universities on October of the same year.
