SEOUL, KOREA - Dongbu Hitek announced on May 30 that it would set up branch offices in China's Shanghai and Beijing. A company official said, "In recent days, there has been a large increase in semiconductor orders from China. We decided to establish branch offices in China as part of efforts to provide better services to dozens of our Chinese clients."
Dongbu Hitek also explained that this move is also aimed at securing China's fast-growing fabless companies as new clients. China's fabless market is forecast to grow to US$12.4 billion by 2016, up more than 50 percent from this year's $8.2 billion.
The company aims to increase its market share in China by placing its focus on producing power control chips, touch chips, and sensors for use in smart devices. It plans to increase the share of the Chinese market in its total sales from 8 percent last year to 13 percent this year.
At present, Dongbu Hitek runs branch offices in six countries, including the United States, Taiwan, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
