SEOUL, KOREA - LG U+ announced on June 2 that it would select and carry forward three tasks of the creative economy, such as creating shared value, finding new growth engines and expanding R&D investments.
As for the creation of shared value, the company’s goal is to increase products and services that can be shared with the society. ‘U+ urban waste integrated management service’ which is a system that collects food waste and ‘U+ ILS’ that is an intelligent light-controlling solution to save energy are the main examples. It is also planning to enhance mobile groupware or Smart office system in order to contribute to the energy reduction.
In order to find new growth engines, the company is going to expand ‘All IP-based’ service into which the existing telecommunication services and other industries are combined. ICT-based Smart Healthcare system and a connected car are considered to be core new growth engines.
LG Group is going to strengthen the area of R&D as well by setting up a R&D center designated only for LG U+.
The local telecommunications service provider is also planning to expand a joint research with local small and medium venture companies and R&D-related consulting services for them.
LG유플러스, 창조경제 3대 과제 추진
LG유플러스가 `공유가치 창출 강화·신성장 동력 발굴·연구개발 투자 확대` 등 창조경제 3대 과제를 선정, 추진한다고 2일 밝혔다.
공유가치(Creation Shared Value) 창출은 사회와 공유할 수 있는 제품과 서비스 제공을 늘리겠다는 취지다. 음식물 쓰레기 종량제 수거 시스템인 `유플러스 도시생활 폐기물 통합관리 서비스`와 에너지 절감을 위한 지능형 조명제어 솔루션 `유플러스 ILS` 등이 이에 해당한다. 또 모바일 그룹웨어나 스마트 오피스 시스템 등을 고도화해 에너지 절감에 기여할 계획이다.
신성장 동력 발굴을 위해선 통신 산업과 이종 분야 간 융합한 올(All) IP 기반 서비스를 늘리기로 했다. ICT를 결합한 스마트 헬스케어나 커넥티드 카(connected car) 등이 핵심 신성장 동력으로 꼽힌다.
LG그룹이 서울 마곡단지에 5만3000여평 규모로 설립 예정인 연구개발센터 `LG 사이언스파크` 내 4000평 규모의 LG유플러스 전용 연구개발 센터를 구축하는 등 R&D도 대폭 강화할 예정이다.
LG유플러스 관계자는 “토지 매입비 440억여원을 포함, 건물·장비 등에 투자를 늘릴 방침”이라고 말했다. 또 중소·벤처기업과 공동연구를 확대하고 R&D 분야 컨설팅을 확대할 계획이다.
