SEOUL, KOREA - Oracle Korea has now shown it heels to its rival, SAP Korea, and started supplying Samsung Electronics with the Partner Relationship Management (PRM) solution. What’s drawing people’s attention is that Samsung chose Oracle as the PRM solution provider while still using the ERP solution provided by SAP.
According to the related industry on June 2, Oracle Korea was selected by Samsung as a business partner in implementing a project of establishing PRM. PRM is a solution that enables you to integrate and manage sales and marketing businesses that have so far been done separately by individual companies or their partners. Based on the solution, the local home appliances giant is going to create ‘Partner Portal’ through which the company could share sales and marketing strategies with its partners that sell its products and achieve fruitful results.
Knowing that the project itself is for Samsung’s global partners and the size of it is more than KRW 10 billion, many of the relevant solution vendors have shown their interest. It has taken about a year for Samsung to select the final vendor.
“SAP and Oracle competed with each other until the last moment. But Oracle has won over its rival this time. And it would be the first time for Oracle to supply PRM to Samsung,” says a source from the industry.
It has been reported that Samsung would complete establishing the 1st stage PRM project by the end of July and expand and apply the solution to its foreign branches.
오라클, SAP 텃밭 공세…삼성전자에 파트너관계관리 솔루션 공급
한국오라클이 SAP코리아를 따돌리고 삼성전자에 파트너관계관리(PRM) 솔루션을 공급했다. 삼성전자는 SAP의 전사자원관리(ERP)를 사용 중인 곳이어서 관심을 끈다.
2일 업계에 따르면 삼성전자가 추진한 PRM 프로젝트 구축 사업자로 한국오라클이 낙점됐다. PRM이란 기업과 협력사 간 개별적으로 진행됐던 영업·마케팅 업무를 통합, 관리할 수 있도록 지원하는 솔루션이다. 삼성전자는 이를 토대로 일종의 `파트너 포털`을 만들어 자사 제품을 판매하는 협력사들과 영업 및 마케팅 전략 등을 공유, 성과 창출을 도모한다는 계획이다.
이번 프로젝트는 글로벌 전자 업체로 부상한 삼성전자의 세계 파트너를 대상으로 하는데다 사업 규모만 100억원을 넘는 것으로 전해져 관련 솔루션 기업들의 이목이 집중돼왔다. 선정 작업만 1년 가까이 걸렸다.
업계 관계자는 “SAP와 오라클이 마지막까지 경쟁을 벌였지만 오라클이 수주를 따냈다”며 “오라클이 삼성전자에 PRM을 공급하는 건 이번이 처음”이라고 말했다.
업계는 뜻밖의 결과라는 반응이다. PRM은 특성상 ERP와 연계가 중요한 데 앞서 삼성전자에 ERP를 공급한 SAP가 경쟁에서 탈락했기 때문이다. 또 다른 업계 관계자는 “SAP로서는 오라클에 일격을 당한 셈”이라고 평가했다.
삼성전자는 오는 7월 말까지 1단계 PRM을 구축한 뒤 해외 법인 등으로 확대, 적용할 예정인 것으로 전해졌다.
한편 한국오라클은 삼성전자와의 계약과 관련해 “고객사 내용은 확인해 줄 수 없다”고 밝혔다.
