SEOUL, KOREA - Korea is planning to set up the world standard for ‘dry air’ that has recently emerged as an eco-friendly insulating gas.
Korea Electrical Manufactures Association announced on June 3 that it would carry out ‘a project of settling standards for eco-friendly and high-voltage electrical equipment’ in order to help fix criteria for dry air, as a dielectric gas, and for the development of electrical devices into which dry air is applied.
The Association is going to set up standards for the management of the insulating performance of dry air, the insulation design technology for eco-friendly electrical equipment, the insulation design technology for hybrid electrical equipment and the management of collecting and reusing mixture gas.
SF6, a major greenhouse gas, has so far been used as a dielectric gas, but is now being replaced with dry air that is less moist and is mainly made up of nitrogen and oxygen. But, there aren’t any technical standards set up for dry air, and related technical development hasn’t been made.
The Association says now may be a good time for the nation to set up the global standard for an eco-friendly dielectric gas. And it also adds that it aims to submit its suggested standards for dry air and to have them adopted as the global norms by the year of 2015.
한국, 절연가스 '드라이에어' 세계표준 선점한다
우리나라가 친환경 절연가스로 급부상한 `드라이에어` 세계 표준 제정에 나선다.
전력기기 제조에 사용되는 절연가스 표준 제정으로 전력기기 세계시장을 선점한다는 전략이다.
한국전기산업진흥회는 드라이에어 표준과 이를 적용한 전력기기 개발을 골자로 한 `친환경·초고압 전력기기 표준개발과제`를 이달부터 수행한다고 3일 밝혔다.
진흥회는 △드라이에어 절연성능 표준·관리기준 △친환경 전력기기 절연설계 기술 표준화 △하이브리드 절연 전력기기 설계 기술 표준화 △혼합가스 회수·재사용 관리 표준화 등을 마련할 방침이다.
그동안 대표적 온실가스 SF6(육불화황)이 절연가스로 주로 사용됐다. 하지만 지구온난화 문제로 SF6가 드라이에어로 대거 교체되는 추세다. 드라이에어는 습기가 적고 대부분 질소와 산소로 이뤄져 친환경적이다. 하지만 드라이에어 관련 기술 표준과 관련 기술 개발은 미미한 상태다.
진흥회는 친환경 절연가스 기술 자체가 미완성이라 지금이 우리나라가 세계 표준을 선점할 적기라고 설명했다. 또 오는 2015년까지 드라이에어 세계 표준을 제안, 채택되는 게 목표라고 덧붙였다.
드라이에어 표준 선점에 따른 경제적 파급효과도 적지 않을 전망이다.
이우식 진흥회 본부장은 “2020년 SF6 관련 해외시장은 변압기 365억달러, 개폐장치 326억달러, 절연·금구류 223억달러에 달할 것”이라며 “이중 상당 부분이 드라이에어를 이용한 기기로 대체될 것”이라고 말했다.
