SEOUL, KOREA - The sales of import cars in Korea reached an all-time high at 13,411 units in May 2013, setting a new record in just one month. Last month's import car sales stood at 13,411 units, renewing the previous record of 13,320 units set only a month ago.

Unlike the robust performance of import cars, the sales of domestically made cars fell by 1.9 percent year-on-year to 98,655. The share of import cars in Korea's car market, accordingly, rose by 0.1 percentage point to 12.0 percent in May. The share of import cars was highest in January when it stood at 12.9 percent.
Top-four import car brands, namely BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Audi, reported a sluggish growth but the second-tier brands such as Toyota, Ford, Mini, and Chrysler achieved a remarkable growth. Toyota, in particular, saw its sales rise to 1,314 in May, up from 576 a month ago.
