SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors saw their hybrid models set a new sales record in the U.S. last month. According to the automobile industry on June 9, the sales of Sonata and K5 Hybrid—the two hybrid models Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors are selling the U.S., stood at 3,335 units (2,129 and 1,206, respectively), last month, the highest since they were released in 2011.
This figure is up 44 percent from 2,315 units recorded in May 2012. The monthly sales of the hybrid models exceeded the 3,000-unit mark for three straight months.
The sales of hybrid cars are rising at a rapid pace in the United States where the trend of practical consumption is spreading amid the economic slowdown and high oil prices. The number of hybrid cars sold in the U.S. last year reached 440,000 units, up 62.5 percent from a year ago.
