SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics announced on June 10 that its sales of 50-inch-plus smart TVs and 60 inch-plus ultra-large TVs each marked a positive growth of 163 percent and 84 percent, respectively, in May compared to a month ago.
The overall sales of its smart TVs, including mid- and small-sized models, rose by 151 percent in May compared to a month earlier. Key factors behind the hike in sales of large TVs include a special promotional event Samsung Electronics carried out in May.
During the event that lasted for May, Samsung Electronics provided a variety of benefits, including price discount and LED TVs to those who purchased smart TVs.
During the event period, the limited sales volume of 75-inch Samsung Smart TV F7200 (300 units) were sold out. The best-selling model was the 55-inch F6000 series.
Samsung Electronics added that during the January-May period of this year, its domestic sales of 50-inch-plus TVs rose by 83 percent compared to a year ago, with the share of over 50-inch TVs in total TV sales rising to 23 percent in the January-May period of this year from 9 percent a year ago.
