SEOUL, KOREA - Ultra laptops with 2.5 times faster storage speed will likely to be released in the third quarter of this year. Samsung Electronics has developed the storage speed of SSD that is now emerging as an alternative to HDD.
On June 17, Samsung Electronics showed off a brand-new SSD (XP941) for use in ultrabooks that boasts 2.5 times faster storage speed than those of the current SSDs. The company said that it has been supplying the newly-developed SSDs to global laptop makers from the second quarter of this year, adding that ultrabooks mounted with these SSDs will likely to be released from the third quarter of this year.
The newly-developed SSD uses the PCI Express (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) technology that transmits data through various channels, instead of using the existing SATA technology that connects SSDs with laptops in a linear manner.
The brand-new SSD has a continuous reading speed of 512 GB or 1,400 MB per second. It can store 500 GB, or 100 full HD movies, within six minutes.
