SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electronics co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun officially confirmed that the Galaxy S4 LTE-A, the world’s first smartphone supporting LTE-A, will be launched within this month.
Samsung co-CEO JK Shin told Reuters, “Samsung is getting ready to release a new model that will include compatibility with LTE-Advanced networks, which will be able to deliver data speeds at least twice as fast as most current LTE networks. The new Galaxy S4 variant will be the first smartphone in the world to be compatible with LTE-A.”
The Galaxy S4 LTE-A, equipped with a Qualcomm chip, is expected to be slightly more expensive than the Galaxy S4.
Dismissing fears over slower-than expected sales of the Galaxy S4, Samsung co-CEO JK Shin said, “Sales of the Galaxy S4 are still robust and much stronger than its predecessor the Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S4 LTE-A will add new upward momentum to the high-end market.”

신종균 삼성 사장, LTE-A 지원 `갤럭시S4` 이달 출시한다
신종균 삼성전자 사장이 이달 안에 세계 최초로 롱텀에벌루션 어드밴스트(LTE-A)를 지원하는 `갤럭시S4`를 출시한다고 공식 확인했다.
18일 로이터통신에 따르면 신 사장은 “이달 중 최대한 빠른 시일 내에 국내에서 LTE-A 지원 갤럭시S4를 출시하겠다”면서 “LTE-A를 지원하는 스마트폰을 출시하는 것은 삼성전자가 세계 최초가 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.
LTE-A를 지원하는 갤럭시S4는 퀄컴 칩을 사용하고 기존에 출시했던 갤럭시S4보다 가격이 조금 비싸질 것으로 예상된다.
갤럭시S4 판매가 부진하다는 시장의 우려는 일축했다.
신 사장은 “갤럭시S4 판매는 여전히 강세고 전작인 갤럭시S3보다도 훨씬 빠르다”면서 “LTE-A를 지원하는 새 갤럭시S4가 이익률을 높여주는 하이엔드 시장에 새로운 동력이될 것”이라고 강조했다.
