SEOUL, KOREA - June 20th marked the 10th anniversary of the East West Cooperation Foundation, and a commemoration to celebrate the event took place at the National Assembly Memorial Hall. The foundation was established in 2003 with the goal of helping foster positive relations between South and North Korea and to promote peace on the Korean peninsula through private sector-led research and activities.

For the last decade, the East West Cooperation Foundation has expanded the number of inter-Korean exchanges. These projects include the setup of South and North communication lines and aid projects; improved economic cooperation through a network of Koreans across the world; developed policies to resolve conflicts stemming from the increasing number of multicultural families; and operating training programs for global leaderships.
Hahn Hwa-gahp, chairman of the East West Cooperation Foundation said, “For the last decade, we have run diverse projects to promote peace on the Korean peninsula and the reconciliation of the East and West within the country, as well as peaceful coexistence with multicultural families. We haven’t yet reached our full potential, but with the accumulated experiences thus far, we are ready to continue demonstrating improvement down the road.”

Kang Chang-hee, chairman of the National Assembly said that, “We understand that for more effective diplomacy, a country should not resort exclusively to the government, but also look towards omnidirectional efforts including capable civilians. In order to improve diplomatic activities, it is more important to expand the exchanges and understanding among the public rather than pursuing immediate national interests. In this regard, I believe the East West Cooperation Foundation will contribute to the harmony and peace of our society.”
