SEOUL, KOREA – A TV channel dedicated to the Korean wave kicked off its offical service today. TVK said Korean wave channel “tvk (tvkglobal.com),” a joint venture between TVK and Ire Safety System, will begin its official service in Thailand on July 1.
Though Korean PPs (program providers) provided Hallyu contents to Thai channels, opening a 100% Hallyu channel in Thailand is unprecedented.
tvk will air a variety of Hallyu contents, such as movies, K-pop, entertainment news, variety shows, culture, food, and tourism, to 20 million Thai households for 24 hours a day via THAICOM’s satellite.
The head of tvk Thailand said, “We have been inundated with online inquires and incoming calls even during the pilot broadcasts.”
Kim Hae-yong, CEO of TVK, said, “Once tvk in Thailand gets on track, we plan to expand our business to Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Laos, etc.”

태국 한류 전문방송 tvk 1일 개국
태국에 한류 엔터테인먼트 전문 방송국이 문을 연다.
티브이케이(대표 김해용)는 이레안전시스템과 공동 설립한 태국 내 한류 전문 방송국 `tvk(tvkglobal.com)`가 이달 중 시험 방송을 마치고 7월 1일 공식 방송을 시작한다고 밝혔다.
국내 프로그램 공급업체(PP)가 태국 방송 채널에 한류 콘텐츠를 공급한 사례는 있지만 태국에 100% 한류 전문 방송국이 설립되는 것은 이번이 처음이다.
tvk는 1일부터 한국의 드라마, 영화, K팝, 연예뉴스, 버라이어티, 문화, 음식, 관광 등 다양한 콘텐츠를 타이콤(THAICOM) 위성을 거쳐 24시간 태국 내 2000만 가구에 무료 송출하게 된다.
tvk 관계자는 “태국 국영 방송국과 합작 드라마 제작 협의를 진행하고 있으며 한류방송프로그램에 나온 한국 제품을 바로 판매하는 한류 홈쇼핑, 현지 취향에 맞는 자체 콘텐츠 제작, K팝 콘서트, 한류스타 CF 등 태국과의 문화교류에 허브역할을 할 것”이라고 설명했다.
김해용 티브이케이 대표는 “tvk가 정상궤도에 오르게 되면 베트남, 필리핀, 홍콩, 미얀마, 라오스 등 아시아 각국에 한국의 우수한 문화를 보다 폭넓게 알리기 위한 한류 전문 방송사업을 확대할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.
