XIAN, CHINA- President Park Geun-hye, currently on a state visit to China, went on June 30 to Xi'an in the northwest to inspect the site where a US$7-billion semiconductor plant is being built by Samsung Electronics.
She asked Korean corporate leaders gathered there to participate actively in China's western development program.

Earlier on the 29th, Ms. Park had visited Hyundai Motor's No. 3 plant in Beijing and parts suppliers nearby. According to Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Mong Koo, his company is also weighing a fourth assembly plant in the west, out of the major cities such as Chongqing, Xi'an, or Chengdu. The President on the 28th delivered a speech to students in Tsinghua University, the alma mater of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
