SEOUL, KOREA – Android's growth is now coming from cheap, no-name smartphone manufacturers in China, according to Needham analyst Charlie Wolf, Business Insider reported.
“In a new research note, which Philip Elmer DeWitt at Fortune summarized, Wolf points out that Samsung's share of the Android market has stalled at 40%. Since the start of last year, the category of "other" Android manufacturers has been growing, going to to ~25% from 10% over that period,” Business Insider reported.
Wolf explained the "other" (except Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, HTC and Sony) category: "Most of these companies, located in China, have entered the market with low-end, cheaply produced Android phones that are not much more expensive than feature phones. Indeed, most buyers of these phones use them as feature phones."
Samsung is bumping into the same kinds of problems hitting Apple. It's reaching a saturation point for what it can do. Overall, Samsung's smartphones are growing, but the growth is slowing and the high end market is saturated for Samsung, Business Insider reported.

이제 안드로이드 성장 주역은 삼성 아닌 中 군소 업체
삼성전자가 더 이상 안드로이드 성장의 주역이 아니라는 통계가 나왔다. 안드로이드 시장 점유율을 빠르게 잠식하는 무명의 중국 저가 스마트폰 제조사의 파죽지세 때문이다.
2일 포천과 비즈니스인사이더는 미국 투자분석회사 니드햄의 찰리 울프 애널리스트가 낸 보고서를 인용해 “삼성은 더 이상 안드로이드 성공의 주역이 아니다”라고 보도했다.
보고서에 따르면 올해 안드로이드 성장세를 이끄는 주인공은 삼성전자•LG전자•HTC•소니가 아닌 `기타(Others)` 제조사 무리다. 울프 애널리스트는 “기타에 속한 중국의 이름 없는 기업들은 대부분 저가 안드로이드폰을 만든다”고 설명했다.
무명의 중국 모바일 제조사로 이뤄진 기타 그룹은 1분기 안드로이드 시장에서 25% 점유율을 돌파했다. 2010년 1분기에 5%, 작년 1분기 15%를 밑돌던 기타 그룹이 가파른 성장세를 구가 중이다. 이들 제조사가 적은 비용으로 스마트폰 시장에 진입하기 위해 안드로이드를 선택한다.
삼성전자는 2011년 이후 제자리걸음이다. 보고서는 삼성전자의 점유율이 40%에 이르지만 선진 시장의 포화로 성장은 멈춰있다고 평가했다.
