This was largely thanks to the brisk sales in major markets including the Middle East and Europe. In the United Arab Emirates alone, for example, Samsung Electronics Vietnam sold about $1 billion worth of mobile devices during the first half. The company expects to break the $20-billion level by the year's end, way over the $16.5-billion export target for the year.
The company is the biggest mobile device manufacturer out of eight plants across the world operated by Samsung, capable of producing 120 million units of mobile devices a year. With more than 30,000 employees, it contributes significantly to Vietnam's economic growth. Once a new Samsung plant being built in Thai Nguyen Province in the northeast is completed, Samsung's Vietnamese capacity will rise to 240 million units, cementing its position as the world's largest mobile phone production base.
