At the meeting, high-ranking officials from the company's performance materials unit in Germany were present. It is likely that the discussion was mostly about the joint R&D in the flexible OLED (organic light-emitting diode) area.
Merck, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, is also strong in chemical materials including LCD base materials. The company established a sales office in Korea in 1989 and opened in 2011 an OLED application development center in the Poseung Industrial Complex near Pyeongtaek, south Gyeonggi Province.
