SEOUL, KOREA – Apple has asked the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to stay an import ban on a number of its products scheduled to take effect on August 5, pending Apple’s appeal to the Federal Circuit court. The US ITC ordered an import ban on Apple’s products including the iPhone 4 and the iPad2 on June 4, ruling in favor of Samsung Electronics in a patent infringement suit.
According to a report by Gigaom, Apple filed a motion with the ITC on Monday, saying that the ban will “sweep away an entire segment of Apple’s product offerings” and result in the company losing opportunities to “gain new smartphone and tablet customers who otherwise would have purchased these entry-level Apple devices.”
Apple is a little over half way through a 60-day Presidential Review period in which US President Barack Obama can veto the ITC order. If no action is taken, as is usually the case, the import ban comes into effect.

애플이 미국 국제무역위원회(ITC)에 아이폰4와 아이패드2 등에 대한 수입금지 명령을 유예해달라고 요청했다. 애플은 지난 6월 4일 ITC 특허 소송에서 삼성에 패소하면서 8월 5일부터 수입금지 조치가 예정됐었다.
10일 기가옴은 애플이 ITC에 “오는 8월 5일부터 아이폰4 등에 대한 수입금지 명령을 적용하면 판매금지에 따른 직접적 피해는 물론이고 애플 제품 전체에 피해가 우려된다”면서 “해당 제품을 공급하는 통신사도 피해를 입을 수 있다”는 취지의 문건을 제출했다고 밝혔다.
애플은 항소법원 판결이 날 때까지 수입금지를 유예해달라고 ITC에 요청했다. ITC 소송에서 패소하면 ITC는 해당 제품 수입금지 조치를 내린다. 오바마 대통령이 60일간 검토 기간을 거친 뒤 거부권 행사 여부를 결정하지만, 지금까지는 한번도 거부권을 행사한 적이 없다.
