SEOUL, KOREA - According to the industry on the 14th, LG Electronics has developed the Google TV service to be offered on Jellybean OS for the first time in the world, and will introduce the service in Korea by the end of this month. In the U.S., LG's Google TV on Jellybean will be launched next month, if early, or by the end of September, at the latest.
LG Electronics will also provide the Jellybean upgrade for the Google TV on Honeycomb it launched in May last year, as it launches the Google TV on the upgraded version of Android OS.
Google TV on Jellybean has a much-improved app compatibility, compared to its previous version, which will easily convert the smartphone apps to the TV version by a simple programming.
LG added '3D Game Changer' to its Google TV on Jellybean, which will convert the screens of 2D games to that of 3D, and a remote controller app for the games dedicated to Google TV.
LG Electronics is expecting that more smartphone games will be converted to Google TV. Many TV apps offered exclusively in Korea had already been made available through Google Play, as LG U+ started 'tv G' service. The tv G is a service that combined IPTV and Google TV services, to which more than 370,000 subscribers signed up in 7 months of its go-alive as of the last month.
LG Electronics plans to convert the apps and contents offered by its smart TVs to be compatible to Google TV on Jellybean to make them available through the Google TV also.

14일 업계에 따르면 LG전자는 이달 말에 젤리빈 운용체제(OS)를 채택한 구글TV를 세계 최초로 국내에 출시한다. 미국에는 이르면 다음 달, 늦어도 9월에 판매에 돌입한다. LG전자는 미국 젤리빈 구글TV 출시에 맞춰 기존 허니컴 기반 구글TV를 젤리빈으로 업그레이드하는 서비스를 제공한다. LG전자는 지난해 5월 세계 최초로 미국에서 허니컴 구글 TV를 출시한 바 있다.
젤리빈 구글TV는 구글의 최신 OS인 안드로이드 4.2.2를 탑재한다. 이전 버전에 비해 앱 호환성이 크게 강화돼 간단한 프로그래밍으로 스마트폰 앱을 TV에 맞게 전환할 수 있다.
젤리빈 구글TV에는 LG 독자 기술인 `3D 게임 체인저`가 적용됐다. 3D 게임 체인저는 2D 게임을 3D 콘텐츠에 버금가는 입체 영상으로 변환해준다. 또 구글TV 전용 게임 리모컨 앱도 채택한다. 게임을 스마트폰처럼 TV에서도 편리하게 즐길 수 있도록 돕는다. LG전자는 지난 5월 미국 샌프란시스코에서 열린 구글 I/O행사에서 클라우드 기반 2인용 격투기 게임을 젤리빈 구글TV에서 시연해 좋은 반응을 얻었다.
LG전자는 구글TV 국내 출시와 맞물려 스마트폰용 인기 게임 앱의 TV 전환이 활기를 띨 것으로 기대하고 있다. 이미 LG유플러스 `tv G` 서비스에 맞춰 다수의 국내 시장 전용 TV앱이 구글 앱스토어인 구글플레이에 올라와 있다. tv G 서비스는 IPTV와 구글TV의 스마트 서비스를 하나로 묶은 것으로 출시 7개월 만인 지난달 가입자가 37만명을 돌파했다.
LG전자 관계자는 “기존 구글TV와 달리 젤리빈 구글TV에서는 다양한 한국형 앱을 즐길 수 있는 기회가 많아질 것”이라며 “이는 구글TV 보급이 확산될 수 있는 기대요인으로 작용한다”고 설명했다. LG전자는 구글 앱 장터인 `구글플레이`에서 내려 받는 앱 이외에도 기존 LG 스마트TV에서 서비스하던 앱이나 콘텐츠를 젤리빈 구글TV에 맞게 전환해 서비스할 계획이다.
