SEOUL, KOREA - Government, academia and business will join hands to boost the LED market and save electricity. Korea Polytechnic University and the LED Industrial Innovation Cluster Committee (IICC)of Gyeonggi-do held a business seminar on “Gyeonggi-do LED Development Consortium.” The consortium comprises Korea Polytechnic University, Gyeonggi-do, KT Rental and LED lighting companies. The consortium aims to let people use LED light at affordable prices through rental services. Korea Polytechnic University will transfer LED lighting technology to LED IICC member companies to produce the product, and KT Rental will rent the product at half the market price. Defect or old lights can be replaced immediately or serviced by the rental operator. Regional governments are the first targets of the rental service. Upon request for replacement, KT Rental will provide consulting and rent LED light to regional governments, and provide all the relevant services including installation and maintenance. The consortium is going to expand the services to the places that comsume considerable amount of energy for the lighting, such as apartment buildings, private buildings, parking lots, security facilities, etc. The rental service is expected to expand the LED lighting market which has not been going slow, due to high prices and installation cost. So far, the LED light penetration rate has been relatively low, compared to other advance countries that provide LED subsidies. The penetration rate in three major countries is 15-20% while it is less than 10 % in Korea.
LED조명, 렌털 사업 시작
발광다이오드(LED) 시장에도 렌털 서비스가 등장했다. LED 조명 시장 활성화와 전력 절감을 위해 경기도와 LED 조명 기업, 학교, 렌털 사업자가 손을 잡았다.
한국산업기술대학교와 경기도 LED 산업혁신클러스터협의회(IICC)는 12일 경기도 산업기술대 TIP아트센터에서 `경기 LED 발전소 컨소시엄` 사업설명회를 열었다.
컨소시엄은 산업기술대, 경기도, KT렌탈, LED 조명 업체들로 구성된다. 수명이 긴 LED의 이점을 살려 저렴한 가격에 LED 조명을 임대해서 사용할 수 있도록 하자는 취지다. 산업기술대가 개발한 LED 조명 기술을 경기도 LED IICC 회원사에 전수해 제품을 생산하고 KT렌탈이 시중의 절반 가격에 이를 조달받아 임대해주는 형태다. 불량이나 노후 조명은 바로 교체가 가능하고 사후서비스(AS)를 계속 받을 수 있다.
우선 지방자치단체가 주요 공략 대상이다. KT렌탈이 조명 교체 사업을 의뢰 받으면 조명 컨설팅을 거쳐 LED 조명을 임대한다. 조명 구축과 AS 등을 KT렌탈이 맡는다. 향후 민간 아파트나 빌딩 지하주차장, 보안등, 간판 렌털 서비스로 확대할 예정이다. 전력 소비가 많은 공장, 주유소, 캐노피 등에도 적극적으로 영업망을 넓힐 계획이다.
현동훈 산업기술대 교수는 “덴마크 코펜하겐시에서 사용되는 LED 가로등 등 밝기·눈부심·빛공해 등 엄격한 기준을 통과한 제품만 사용할 예정”이라며 “렌털 기간은 1~2년가량”이라고 말했다. 경기도 LED IICC 회원사는 협동조합을 결성해 `G-LED` 마크도 도입해 신뢰성을 확보하기로 했다.
임대 사업이 시작되면서 그동안 가격, 시설비 때문에 활성화 되지 못했던 LED 조명 시장도 확대될 전망이다. 그동안 한국은 일본·미국·EU 등 전력 절감을 위해 LED 조명을 사면 보조금을 주는 선진국에 비해 LED 조명 보급률이 낮았다. 3개 국가는 LED 조명 보급률이 전체 조명 시장의 15~20%를 상회하는 반면에 한국은 10%가 채 되지 않는다.
