SEOUL, KOREA - LG CNS announced on July 15 that they developed and launched its own ‘Micro Grid’, an energy storage and management solution applied to a solar power plant. Based on the new energy storage solution that supports the efficient power generation, the company is aiming at the solar power market home and abroad.
While Smart Grid helps exchange electric power information for a wide area, Micro Grid is a power grid that exchanges electric power information for specific areas such as power plants, universities, institutes and factories for their optimized energy efficiency.
The new solution released by LG CNS connects an energy storage system (ESS) to existing facilities including a generator of a renewable energy power plant, a panel board for energy generation and reception, an electric room and others and manages them through an energy management system (EMS). It stores surplus electricity generated during the time when the demand is low or weather is fine and supplies it during the peak time.
The solution was developed based on the company’s experience in implementing the establishment of a test Smart Grid complex in Jeju. And the company has completed the test by applying it to a solar power plant of LG Solar Energy. It has been found that the solution could reduce 65% of the cost for the plant’s power consumption.
“We have a plan to provide our Micro Grid solution not only for future new renewable energy plants but also for the existing new renewable energy facilities nationwide,” says Kim Ji-seop, the managing director of LG CNS Smart Green Business Division. The Company is going to advance into overseas markets as well in the long term.

LG CNS가 태양광 발전소에 적용하는 에너지 저장·관리 솔루션인 `마이크로그리드`를 개발, 출시했다고 15일 밝혔다. 전력생산 효율화를 지원하는 마이크로그리드를 기반으로 국내외 태양광 발전소 시장을 적극 공략한다.스마트그리드가 국가 등 넓은 지역의 전력정보를 교환하는 전력망이라면 마이크로그리드는 좁은 지역의 전력정보를 교환, 에너지 효율을 최적화 하는 전력망이다. 발전소·대학·연구소·공장 등 지역에서 제한된 지역에 적은 비용으로 적용할 수 있다.
LG CNS 마이크로그리드 솔루션은 신재생에너지 발전소의 발전 설비와 발전·수전용 분전반, 전기실 등 기존 시설에 ESS를 연계, EMS로 관리한다. 전력 소요가 적거나 날씨가 좋을 때 초과 발전되는 잉여 전기를 저장, 피크타임에 공급한다.
솔루션은 제주스마트그리드 실증단지 구축 사업 수행 경험을 기반으로 개발했다. LG솔라에너지의 태안 태양광발전소에 시험 적용, 테스트를 완료했다. 발전소 전기 소비의 65% 비용을 절감한다.
김지섭 LG CNS 스마트그린사업부 상무는 “향후 수행하는 신재생에너지 발전시설뿐 아니라 이미 건설된 전국 신재생에너지 발전시설을 대상으로 마이크로그리드 솔루션을 공급할 계획”이라고 말했다. 장기적으로 해외 발전시설도 공략한다.
