SEOUL, KOREA- One out of two elementary students owns a smartphone in Korea, while the share of smartphone holders among middle and high school students is estimated at more than 80 percent.The Ministry of Education recently conducted a survey about how many students have their own smartphones. The survey was conducted with 6.28 million students at the nation's 11,410 elementary, middle, and high schools.
As of July 1, 69.1 percent, or 4.34 million, of the nation's elementary, middle, and high school students have their own smartphones, including tablet computers.
Among the nation's 2.7 million elementary students, 1.31 million or 48.8 percent of the total, have their own smartphones. The share of smartphone holders among middle and high school students was far higher than that. 85.1 percent of middle school students have their own smartphones, slightly lower than high school students' 83.7 percent.
