SEOUL, KOREA- SK Engineering & Construction said on July 29 that it has won a US$417-million project to build port facilities and underwater oil pipelines near the Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical complex in the Nghi Son Economic Zone in northern Vietnam.
The order was commissioned by the JGCS Consortium whose member firms include Japan's JGC Corp. and Chiyoda Corp., France's Technip, as well as Korea's GS Engineering & Construction.
The project calls for building a 1.6-kilometer seawall, 600-meter shore protection works, a four-berth port facility, and two 35-km undersea pipelines. It is an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction)-based contract, with 36 months to complete. SK E&C won the project through a competitive bidding with the world's best-known contractors such as Toyo Engineering (Japan), Technip (France), and Punj Lloyd (India).
Lee Chung-woo, SK E&C's president of infrastructure business division, said, "With the latest project in Vietnam, we could reach the target of 1 trillion won in overseas order booking this year. This is an important momentum for us because we could diversify our business area to offshore construction."
