SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung Electronics launched official sales of its next-generation curved OLED TV in the United States following the full-scale sales at home in Korea.The company formulated a strategy aimed at increasing its share in the U.S. TV market up to 30 percent on the back of the release of the state-of-the-art models.
Samsung Electronics held a special event in New York on August 13 to celebrate the kick-off of its 55-inch curved OLED TV in the U.S. market. This event came in one year and eight months after it unveiled the world's first OLED TV at the CES trade show in January 2012.
At present, only two companies are mass-producing OLED TVs in the world—Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. The sales price is $8,999. Samsung Electronics cut the price of its curved OLED TV, which was released in late June, from 15 million won to 9.9 million won.
The company is also planning to reduce the price of UHD TVs. A Samsung official said, "There will be additional price cuts for UHD TVs. Unlike the OLED models, the era of UHD market will come soon, making it important for us to present reasonable prices that consumers can afford to buy.
