Hyundai and Kia See Sales Up 29.1% in August

SEOUL, KOREA- Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors overcame the risk stemming from labor strike thanks to the expansion of overseas production. According to industry sources on September 2, Hyundai Motor sold 381,429 units in and outside Korea in August 2013, up 29.1 percent year on year and up 5 percent from a month ago.Kia Motors sold 224,247 units last month, including domestic sales of 39,000 units and exports of 185,247 units, up 17.5 percent from a year ago and up 5.7 percent from a month ago.

Hyundai Motor saw the production and sales of its overseas factories rise by 20.4 percent, while Kia Motors 18.5 percent, offsetting the decline in domestic production caused by labor strikes.

By model, the Avante was sold 7,905 units, regaining the No. 1 spot in sales ranking, while the Santa Fe and Tucson ix suffered a negative growth of 37 percent and 42 percent compared to a month ago.
