
The Xperia Z1, a new smartphone model displayed at IFA by Sony has a 20.7-megapixel resolution. Unlike most of the latest high-end smartphones, including Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 and LG Electronics' G2, stop short of having 13 megapixels, Sony's Xperia Z1 is appointed with a sensor that has the same size with the image sensor used for compact cameras.
A Sony official said, "Xperia Z1's camera function cannot be rivaled by any other smartphone since it is embedded with the same image sensor and image processing engine as the ones used for real cameras."
Taiwan's Acer is also focusing on the camera function in its new smartphone models. The 6-inch large-screen smartphone Liquid S2, released by Acer, is applied with an ultra HD quality video recording function.
According to market research firm Gartner, Chinese models are forecast to account for 21.4 percent of the global high-end smartphone (with price of higher than $150) market by 2016.
