SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung and LG are engaged in war-like competition to get the upper hand in the Curved OLED TV market. The ever-stiffening competition between the two companies, which are playing a leading role in the development of next-generation OLED TV technologies, is drawing sharp interest at Europe's largest home electronics show IFA that opened in Berlin.
Samsung Electronics showed off a 55-inch UHD OLED TV on September 5. This was the first time for Samsung to unveil a 55-inch UHD OLED TV, although it had already diversified the size of UHD TV lineups from 55-inch to 85-inch models. Samsung succeeded in realizing UHD not only on flat-panel TVs but also on OLED TVs. The company also released 55- and 65-inch OLED LED TVs, first in the world.
Samsung plans to place more focus on UHD technology for the time being since it may take time for the OLED market to fully blossom. Samsung displayed a full range of UHD TVs, ranging from 110-inch to 98-, 85-, 65-, and 55-inch models.
Not to be outdone, LG Electronics also launched the world's largest 77-inch Curved UHD OLED TV. Considering that Samsung and LG are now selling 55- and 65-inch Curved OLED TVs, LG became the first to release 77-inch Curved OLED TV.
