SEOUL, KOREA- Korean President Park Geun-hye arrived in Vietnam on September 7 for a five-day state visit. She will have a summit meeting with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang on the 9th at the presidential palace and discuss ways to strengthen economic ties and current security issues such as the "trust building process for the Korean peninsula" and the "Northeast Asia peace and cooperation initiative." The latest visit is widely expected to be part of her "sales diplomacy" drive.

The main topics for summit talks include strengthening cooperation in nuclear power plant construction, allowing participation of Korean contractors in large-scale national infrastructure projects, and forging a mutually beneficial free trade agreement.

Ju Chul-ki, senior secretary to the President for foreign affairs and national security, said of the Vietnamese visit, "The President will ask the Vietnamese counterpart to support Korean builders in their quest to win nuclear power plant orders in Vietnam by underscoring their technological excellence and safety records. She will also mention Korean companies bidding for large national infrastructure projects under way by the Vietnamese government."
