SEOUL, KOREA - On Monday September 23, 2013, Yoon Seung-joon, President of Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI),
was announced as director of the UN Sustainable Consumption & Production Board. 

UN Sustainable Consumption & Production Board was officially launched during the UN’s 67th general assembly. The board includes a total of ten nations, comprising of a developed nation and a developing nation from each of the five major continents. From the continent of Asia, South Korea and Indonesia were elected.

This board was announced to fulfill the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development’s theme for a ‘Green Economy’ by establishing a supporting role for countries around the world to carry out the sustainable productions & consumption (SCP) plan by 2015.  

During the previous Rio+20 board meetings, Yoon Seung-joon gave keynote on Korea’s SCP procurement of green card, green electronics, and as well as other policy cases. The keynote addresses certainly increased Yoon Seung-joon's reputation within international societies.

With this board meeting, Director Yoon was expected to spread successful examples of implemented policies to developing countries, starting with South Korea’s successes. Yoon, and strongly suggested a knowledge sharing partnership among countries.

Director Yoon stated, “Global interest for the dissemination policy for Korea’s environmental friendly productions is rising, and Asia’s developing countries hope for cooperation with South Korea.” Furthermore, “During this year’s period of environment changes, UNEP jointly with ASEAN is to progress with a SCP education program in Seoul for the ten countries leaders who are in charge of environmental policies. Through this action, South Korea is to position itself as a pioneer to lead the continuance possibility of development in Asia.”
