SEOUL, KOREA- China's mobile phone shipments reached 110 million units in the second quarter of this year. Of the total, smartphones accounted for 86 million units, according to a report "China's Mobile Phone Market for 2Q 2013," released by IDC.The report said that China's mobile phone shipments stood at 110 million units in the April-June period, of which smartphones accounted for 86 million units, up 10 percent from a year ago.

Samsung Electronics grabbed the largest market share in the Chinese smartphone market, followed by Lenovo, Cool Pad, ZTE, and Huawei. China's smartphone shipments account for a third of global smartphone shipments.

The IDC report predicted that China's smartphone shipments will reach 360 million units in 2013 and will likely to reach 450 million units in 2014 thanks to the opening of a 4G era, starting from late 2013, plus the sales of new Apple models.

The report stressed that the sales of more than 5-inch large smartphones are increasing in China, with its share likely to reach 20 percent in total smartphone sales in 2013. China's smartphone market is led by low-priced models with less than 1,500 yuan (US$245), which account for about 70 percent of the total smartphone sales. Most of these models are based on Android operating system.
