SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung Electronics is estimated to have posted a record-high operating profit in the third quarter of this year. However, there are observations that its quarterly operating profit is slightly less than 10 trillion won.Although it performed well in mobile business, including smartphones and memory semiconductor business, it suffered a foreign exchange loss in TV areas. Samsung Electronics' third-quarter operating profit is estimated at between 9.8 trillion won and 9.9 trillion won, higher than its previous record-high quarterly operating profit of 9.53 trillion won set in the second quarter of this year.

The operating profit of its IM (IT & Mobile) division—Samsung's core business area covering smartphones and tablets—is estimated to have marked a positive growth compared to the second quarter.

A Samsung official said, "The third-quarter results are not lower than those recorded in the previous quarter." As for the sales of Galaxy Note 3, he noted, "The Galaxy Note 3 entered a phase of sell-in and will start sell-out from next week. We expect the sales of Galaxy Note 3 to pick up soon." Samsung's memory business is estimated to have enjoyed a sharp improvement in performance with its operating profit estimated at around 2.5 trillion won.
