By region, the Seoul metropolitan area saw the figure fall 42.3 percent from a year ago to 15,241 while non-Seoul areas experienced a 27.6-percent drop to 18,448. By housing type, apartment approval numbers plunged 46.6 percent to 19,676 from the same period last year while those for non-apartments fell 7.7 percent to 14,193. The number of approval for urban-style family homes also declined 45.2 percent to 5,411.
As for the numbers of housing starts and completions, both saw the figures decline for the month year on year. The housing start numbers in September were 30,047, down 36.7 percent from a year ago. The same figure for the Seoul metropolitan area dropped 40.8 percent to 14,555 from September in 2012, while that for non-Seoul area fell 32.3 percent to 15,492. The housing completion numbers fell 2.7 percent to 31,302.
