SEOUL, KOREA- A parliamentary investigation revealed that state-run enterprises belonging to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation are paying too much to their employees amid situation of mounting debt. According to National Assemblyman Lee No-keun (Democratic Party) on October 28 based on data submitted by the land ministry, of the 13 companies under the supervision of the ministry Incheon International Airport Corp. pays the highest annual average salaries to its first-year employees with BA degrees at 39.18 million won.

It was then followed by Korea Water Resources Corp. (38.09 million won), Korea Infrastructure Safety Corp. (37.41 million won), Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (36 million won), Korea Appraisal Board (35.78 million won), Korea Housing Guarantee (33.92 million won), Korea Rail Network Authority (33.10 million won), and Korea Cadastral Survey Corp. (31.34 million won).

Congressman Lee said, "These corporations must be investigated whether they are wasting taxpayers' money by paying too much to their workers while incurring trillions won in debt. In particular, those enterprises paying more annual salaries to their workers with high school diplomas than others to their employees with college degrees need to be remedied in light of fairness."
