SEOUL, KOREA- Mobile is emerging as a strong source of income for Korea’s home shopping industry. In contrast to a stagnant growth in home shopping sales using TVs or computers, those using mobile services have marked a sharp growth.
Even the prime time for home shopping is shifting from around 10 am to the office closing hours and the night hours when people go to bed.
The third-quarter performance of Korea’s big-three home shopping companies—CJ O Shopping, GS Shop, and Hyundai Home Shopping—have something in common that their mobile sales marked a robust growth.
CJ O Shopping, for example, sold 84 billion won worth of goods and services through mobile in the third quarter of this year, higher than 35 billion won in the first quarter and 57.2 billion won in the second quarter.
GS Shop and Hyundai Home Shopping also saw their third-quarter mobile sales rise to 74 billion won and 30 billion won, respectively. These figures are 60 percent and 10 percent higher than their last year’s total mobile sales.
