A plan to construct a new international passenger terminal at Incheon Port and develop the port hinterlands has been finalized. The development is expected to bring Incheon Port one step closer to becoming a mecca of marine tourism in Northeast Asia.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy publicly announced the approval of changes to the development plan of the Ah-am Logistics Complex and a new international passenger terminal in the Incheon Free Economic Zone’s Songdo District last month.
Under the original development plan, the area surrounding the international passenger terminal and part of the port hinterland were designated a port site. But with changes to the plan, the areas have become classified as a mixed support site (673,620 m2).
The Incheon Port Authority (IPA) plans to develop the mixed support site as a “water city” with waterside leisure facilities and will receive consultations from Cuningham Group, an international design firm known for its work in developing world-famous entertainment and leisure destinations including Disneyland and Universal Studios.
Incheon boasts various cultural and tourism resources, including an urban entertainment center, hotels, resorts, shopping districts, outdoor performance halls, terminals, port hinterlands, foreigner settlements from the colonial era and Chinatown, and the IPA will utilize such resources to attract tourists from around the world to Incheon.
