The number of import cars newly registered last month hit the second highest level in history, following the record high of 14,953 units set in July. The cumulative sales of import cars during the January-October period of this year also passed the 130,000 mark, nearing last year’s total. 

According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, the number of import cars sold last month totaled 14,154 units, up 17.8 percent year on year and 11.7 percent compared to a month ago. 

For the January-October period, the sales of import cars in the Korean market reached 130,239 units, coming close to last year’s total of 130,858 units. 

By brand, BMW came on top with 2,939 units, followed by Volkswagen (2,890), Mercedes-Benz (2,238), Audi (1,803), Ford (702), Mini Cooper (522), Lexus (463 ), and Toyota (418).
