The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) announced that Korea Wireless Internet Standardization Forum (KWISF) and Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) signed an MOU to cooperate on standardizing the mobile platform on April 18. The MOU will help in development of mobile platforms, find solutions to reach the global market, exchange related information, and insure collaboration of platform compatibility. These factors are expected to promote WIPI and contribute to strengthen the domestic wireless Internet solution industry.
KWISF is the group of SK Telecom, KTF, LG Telecom, Samsung Electronics and ETRI that get together to contribute to standardize wireless Internet service. The OMTP is a group that is established to standardize platforms and telephony managing plans. The group includes Cingular Wireless, Hutchison 3G, Orange, SKTelecom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, T-Mobile and Vodafone.
MIC is opening an OMA conference in Korea in August to support WIPI to be an international standard policy.
