SEOUL, KOREA - A seminar will be held to discuss future strategies for the Korean economy in light of the past experience of the Japanese economy. It is expected to provide insights on how to get out of the "middle income trap" that the Korean economy has been in since the early 2000s.

The Korea-Japan Cooperation Foundation will hold a seminar "Strategy for the Era of Per-capita $30,000 and Japanese Experience" at 1:30 pm on the 15th at Lotte Seoul. The participants will focus their discussion in this seminar on how to cross the advanced economy threshold.
Lee Jong-yoon, vice chairman of the foundation (Professor Emeritus, Hankuk Univ. of Foreign Studies) will make the keynote speech titled "Entering the phase of per-capita $30,000." "It is important for the Korean economy to learn the lessons from the experience of Japan that could advance to an industrialized economy without falling into the middle income trap."
Other participants, including Lee Hyung-oh (Sookmyung Women's Univ.) and Suh Jeong-hae (Kyungpook National Univ.), will make presentations on Japan's macroeconomic policies and Japan's effort to develop technological know-how and industrial competitiveness.
