GYEONGGI, ILSAN- The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (Minister Moongi-Choi), held the ‘Signing Ceremony for foundation technology transfer and MOU’ on the 13that KINTEX.

The research results that are being transferred will be the product of basic research businesses which has funded general and independent researchers and the 21th century foundation technology development including the business frontier and global frontier, consisting of 8 technology transfers and 15 MOUs (memorandum of understanding), adding up to a total of 23.

The Ministry selected last July, 74 of the foundation research results that have potential of being industrialized, and supported industrialization consulting and search support for needing companies, and among these 10 technologies will have business models planed and prototypes built, additionally being granted research funding of a maximum of 400 million won over 2 years.

The budget for support of industrialization of foundation technologies (Research results industrialize support business) will be increased over two times from 6.5 billion to 12.5 billion won, and supporting technologies from 74 to 150.

The technologies transferred through the joining ceremony will be commercialized by the transferred companies and is expected to create jobs and increase profits. The following is the main technologies.

Professor Jongsu Chae’s team from Sungguangwan University had developed the ‘subminiature, power-saving fully automatic smart circular accelerator’ which is reduced in sized and highly increased in efficiency compared to the original equipment and is expected to lower costs to half costs compared to foreign products (150 million ~ 200 million won) showing that it is highly competitive in both the domestic and foreign market.

Professor Seungheun Kim’s team from Seoul University has discovered a potential anti lung cancer drug which uses benzthiazide, originally used to cure edemas and high blood pressures, to target CA9 (carbonic anhydrase 9, instrumentally to the survival of lung cancer cells).

 

Professor Segwang Han’s team from POSTECH has developed a method to cure hepatitis C using a drug (interferon) incorporating a hyaluronic acid, doubling the efficiency of hepatitis treatments undergoing clinical trials.

GeunJae Lee, Development Director General of Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning, said “We will try our best to strengthen the link between foundation research founding transfers and industrialization to decrease the amount of technologies dying out and use them to create jobs and increase profits” stressing the importance of technology transfer and industrialization.
