SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor plans to launch its Tucson ix hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle in the United States within next year, one year ahead of schedule. The hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle is a next-generation environment-friendly car that uses the electricity generated through reaction between oxygen in the air with hydrogen.
According to Hyundai Motor’s U.S. business unit Hyundai Motor America on November 19, it will unveil its hydrogen sales plan at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show that is scheduled to open on November 20.
A Hyundai Motor America official said, “We will launch the sales of fuel-cell electric cars in the U.S. within next year, starting from the Southern California region toward the rest of the country in stages.”
Hyundai Motor launched the mass-production of hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles this year, first in the world, and aims to produce and sell 1,000 units by 2015.
