The telematics market hasn't grown as big as expected. But the Seoul Motor Show Telematics Forum 2007 to be held during the 2007 Seoul Motor Forum is expected to focus on how the government or related telematics business circles can nurture this industry.

This could be through its less-developed reason analysis at home and abroad or by presenting several alternatives and business models.

As is generally known, telematics is the biggest and most revolutionary invention in the automotive industry in the last decade. It has contributed towards enhancing general quality of life and has redefined the automobile driving experience by making it safer, more enjoyable and productive.

Nevertheless, current telematics services are not what customers want, Director Hunt Bae, Convergence Business Development Coordinator of the Korea Telematics Business Association (KOTBA) points out on the occasion of the Seoul Motor Show Telematics Forum 2007.

In that regard, Seoul Motor Show Telematics Forum 2007 deserves big attention in that the Forum will tackle from how to address specific user requirements for telematics business providers to how to choose among competing technologies from the standpoint of consumers, Bae said.

Among many presentation papers to be shown through this Telematics Update's Seoul Motor Show Telematics Forum, 9-10 April 2007, he recommends to pay special attention to several presentations. A case study on Korea entitled How to Get Out From the Free Subscriptions spiral, the keynote presentation entitled Commercial Vehicle Management: Create Tangible Benefits from Telematics Technology, a talk on operating system perspectives Bringing Value-added Services into the Vehicle: A Platform Perspective, and a panel discussion called Traffic Info Generation, Integration and Distribution are all important vents at the conference.

Regarding Asia's telematics market outlook, Bae pointed out: "The major Asian countries except for Japan and China are equipped with less key infrastructure to unfold telematics services in those countries." He went on to say that in one respect, those countries need to accelerate wireless telecommunication equipment for it.

Director Bae forecasts that the telematics industry is likely to grow to maturity by 2009. He said that telematics can return big profits in comparison to the entrance costs for the industry, since it is the most representative convergence industry that includes ample collaboration between continents, allowing us to accelerate any investment in the field of telematics.
