SEOUL, KOREA - SK Telecom is ready to bring about the era of LTE-A in Korea.SK Telecom demonstrated its LTE-A technology at its headquarters building in Seongnam in Gyeonggi province on November 28.
SK Telecom realized a maximum speed of 225 Mbps by using the CA technology that binds a 1.8-GHz broadband frequency on the 20-MHz bandwidth with a 800-MHz frequency on a 10-MHz bandwidth.SK Telecom explained that the speed of LTE-A,in theory, is about three times faster than existing LTE whose speed is 75Mbps.
At present, the CA technology is common in Korea that creates a 20-MHz effect by binding two 10-MHz bandwidths. However, SK Telecom is the first to bind broadband 20-MHz frequencies.
SK Telecom originally expected the development of LTE-A technology to be completed by early next year but it was completed earlier than scheduled in November. If the broadband LTE-A is commercialized, it may take only 28 seconds to download an 800-MB movie.
