SEOUL, KOREA - NC Soft announced on November 27 that the cumulative sales of its online game Lineage,which marked 15th anniversary this year, passed the 2-trillion-won mark. This milestone has never been achieved by any other single game or Korean cultural content.

This figure is far higher than the combined sales (779.2 billion won) of Korea’s nine best blockbuster movies, each of which attracted more than 10 million visitors. The official Lineage service was launched in September 1998 and this game attracted 1 million subscribers in 15 months, first among online games.

Until September of 2013, Lineage’s cumulative sales reached 2.05 trillion won.Lineage created sales of 204.9 billion won last year, higher than 168.6 billionwon made by SM Entertainment, which is playing a key role in spreading the “KoreanHallyu” throughout the world, with K-Pop singers such as Girls’ Generation and Boa.
