SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor reported sluggish domestic sales, unlike other car makers—GM Korea, Ssangyong Motor and Renault Samsung—that have registered positive growth in sales.
Hyundai Motor recorded domestic sales of 54,302 units last month, down 11.9 percent from a year ago. This was the first time this year for the company to register a double-digit decline.The domestic sales of its flagship passenger cars such as the Avante, Grandeur and Sonata declined sharply with its overall passenger car sales plunging by 19 percent.
In particular, when it comes to its best-selling model Avante, its domestic sales for the period from January to November 2013 stood at about 86,000 units, down 14.8 percent year on year.
The annual domestic sales of the Avante, which stood at higher than 100,000 units last year, are expected to fall short of the 100,000 mark this year.The exports of domestically produced cars also fell by 9.2 percent year-on-year to 106,867 units.
