The latest hybrid, eco-friendly and telematics technologies are also being exhibited here in KINTEX. The Seoul Motor Show Telematics Forum, the Car Design Seminar, the Environment and Technology Seminar, the KAMI Conference, and the Korea Auto Forum will also take place over the next few days.
It is a signature event for the Korean automobile industry, since it is the only biannual international motor show held in Korea that is certified by the Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles (OICA).
Let's start with the numbers. There are 188 companies participating in this Show. One hundred twenty of them are companies from within the country, and 68 are visiting from ten other countries. There are a grand total of 252 vehicles being exhibited, including 29 cars that are making their global debut here including Ssangyong Motors' D130 and Hyundai Motor's HND-3.
Seventeen of the cars being shown are concept cars that illustrate the design visions of the future. And 10 ecologically friendly car design models are on display to show the future of responsible technology.
The Seoul Motor Show Telematics Forum is of particular interest. Telematics is an emerging technology that combines several aspects of existing mapping, satellite, voice, and display technologies to give drivers a reliable, constant resource that shows them where they are.
The Telematics Forum is a major event that begins on Monday, April 9. The international event will be held simultaneously in four languages - English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. All nine major telematics markets in the world will be represented by the wide variety of speakers, among them Kim Do-hyung, Senior Research Engineer of the Vehicle Assistant System Group for LG Electronics.
The Seoul Motor Show Organization Committee expects to see over one million visitors, which would make this the largest show since it began in 1995. The show will have another milestone this year -- the floor space covered by foreign car companies will exceed that taken up by domestic car companies, which is the signature characteristic of a truly international motor show.
