SEOUL, KOREA - BMW Group secured a foothold in Jeju Island ahead of the releasing of its first electric car i3 in Korea, slated within the first half of next year. BMW Group donated 30 units of electric car charging stations to the Jeju provincial government.

As an increasing number of car makers, including BMW, Kia Motors, Renault Samsung, and Nissan, are releasing brand-new electric cars, competition is expected to heat up further next year to grab the upper hand in the electric car market.

BMW recently donated 30 units of electric car charging stations to Jeju Island. The island was designated as a leading electric-car city by the Ministry of Environment this year. The provincial government plans to turn the island into a carbon-free territory by changing the island’s 370,000 cars into electric cars by 2030.

BMW donated the electric car charging stations as part of an effort to build appropriate infrastructure prior to its releasing of i3 in early next year.
